Illustrated History of St. Petersburg

The book by Russian writer, journalist, and publisher of the newspaper "St. Petersburg Vedomosti" Vasily Avseenko (1842-1913) was published in 1903 for the anniversary of St. Petersburg.
"Illustrated History of St. Petersburg" will take us through two centuries in the life of the city on the Neva, from the laying of the first stone to the beginning of the 20th century.
But Vasily Avseenko's work is not just a historical excursion: it excellently describes the everyday life and customs of the townspeople, festivals, architectural monuments, and sights of the Northern Palmira. Moreover, there is also a place for vivid masterful portraits of outstanding individuals whose activities were connected with the city on the Neva - from emperors and great military leaders to artists, writers, and poets.
"Illustrated History of St. Petersburg" has long become a bibliographic rarity. The new edition is complemented by Russian and foreign paintings, as well as unique engravings and archival documents.
