History of Interior. Ancient World. Middle Ages

The book examines the architectural and artistic formation of interiors in the main regions and countries of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages. It identifies the main factors, principles, and methods of composition, means of artistic expressiveness in interiors. It analyzes issues of style formation and compositional interrelations of architecture, monumental decorative art, furniture, lighting fixtures — that is, those components that make up the artistic image of the interior. The textbook is intended for students of art and architectural universities, as well as art historians, interior designers, architects, and a wide range of readers interested in these issues.

Author:
Nikolai Kirillovich Solovyov (1945–2022) — Doctor of Arts, Professor, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 1969, he graduated from the Interior Design Department of the Moscow State Higher Art and Industrial School (formerly Stroganov School). In 1973-1974, he interned at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. He worked as the Vice-Rector for Research at the Moscow State University of Design and Technology named after S.G. Stroganov, head of the Department of History and Theory of Decorative Art and Design. He is the author of numerous fundamental studies and books, as well as dozens of articles on problems of architecture and monumental decorative art, and the history of interiors. He is the author of numerous architectural and artistic projects.
