Georg Trakl. Himself, in the interpretation of Otto Basil

Born in Salzburg (Austria) as a "foreigner", Georg Trakl (1887-1914) throughout his short life painfully longed for an unknown homeland, and all his uniquely structured and melodically based lyrics represent a detached-passionate movement towards the harmony lost by modern humanity, towards the fullness of the "single gender-kind". Known during his lifetime only to a select circle of friends, he had a tremendous influence on all world poetry of the 20th century. `Trakl's poetry celebrates the fate of that breed of people which throws the human race into its forthcoming essence, that is, saves it` (M.
