Enemies. A Love Story

Hermann Broder miraculously managed to survive during World War II. A Polish peasant woman named Jadwiga, who had been a maid in Hermann's household, hid him in the attic for several years. After the war, Hermann, learning that his wife and children had been shot by the Germans, emigrated to America with Jadwiga and took her as his wife. Now he lives in the Jewish quarter of New York, works as a writer, and is meeting with a mistress who also miraculously survived the Holocaust. With each passing day, Hermann becomes more entangled in his memories and love affairs, and he struggles to navigate the reality around him. Higher powers seem to have set out to push this man to the brink... And the past, which seemed to have vanished forever, returns to life once more.
