Central to his work is a memoir-autobiographical trilogy that he worked on for over ten years. In the pages of this trilogy, Sergey Aksakov recounts not only his childhood in Ufa and the Orenburg province, his studies in Kazan Gymnasium and the university, how he transformed from an enthusiastic and passionate child into an educated and ambitious adult, but also about his family’s past, their move from the Simbirsk "homeland" to the fertile Ufa province, and the acquaintance and family life of his parents. The writer also shares his observations about the life of serfs and various details of provincial landed gentry life at the end of the 18th century.
