Alexander Nikolaevich Afanasyev (1826 – 1871) – a collector of folklore, researcher of Slavic peoples, historian, and literary scholar. "Once upon a time" - this is how many Russian fairy tales begin. Or like this: "In a certain kingdom, in a certain state lived a king; the king had three sons". Then, everything goes as in life: both good and bad in equal measure, sometimes a miracle helps, but more often – you will get out with your own head. Aleshenki, Finist, Sea Kings, Swan Geese, cunning foxes and kind bears, the people and nature, the people and the king, work, health, God, death – the tales were collected and retold for generations by Afanasyev.
