Mishneh Torah (Code of Maimonides). Book of Service

Rabbi Moses ben Maimon (Maimonides, 1138–1204) is the greatest Jewish sage of the post-Talmudic era: a legislator, philosopher, scholar, and physician. His code Mishneh Torah (“Repetition of the Teaching”) is one of the most important works of Jewish tradition. In the most extensive of his works, Maimonides summarizes and systematizes the Talmudic tradition and presents the entirety of Jewish religious law – halakha – in an accessible form. The eighth book of Mishneh Torah, “Service,” dedicated to the Jerusalem Temple, includes the Laws of the Temple, the Laws of the Temple vessels and the Temple servants, the Laws of visiting the Temple, the Laws about what is forbidden on the altar, the Laws of making sacrifices, the Laws of daily and additional sacrifices, the Laws regarding invalid sacrifices, the Laws of service on Yom Kippur, and the Laws against the misuse of Temple property. For the first time, it is published in Russian in its entirety, with an accurate modern translation and detailed comments.
