Desperate Audacity

In the very center of Hitler's Berlin, a Jewish girl named Anna survived and did not fall into the jaws of the Holocaust. A Muslim doctor, Mohammed Helmi, saved her from deportation to a concentration camp, risking his life to outsmart the Gestapo. Helmi was honored with the title of Righteous Among the Nations, awarded by the Israeli memorial museum Yad Vashem to those who saved Jews from extermination during World War II. The story of Anna, resembling a detective novel, has been reconstructed by Ronen Steinke from documents and the memories of those involved in the events. The author managed to convey the unique spirit of cosmopolitan Berlin between the two world wars, giving the narrative a special atmosphere.
