The repressions against Jews were becoming increasingly severe, but Otto Silberman did not want to believe in the danger. After all, he is a successful Berlin entrepreneur, a veteran of the Great War, and generally more of a German than a Jew. He would not be touched. Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz (1915–1942) wrote the novel "The Fugitive" in 1938, immediately after Kristallnacht, the Jewish pogrom that swept across Germany. But it was not until 2021 that the novel was published for the first time in German and subsequently translated into dozens of other languages.
