Golden Underground

"Golden Underground. Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock Samizdat (1967 - 1994) - an anthology of texts created in samizdat in the Soviet Union by independent journalists from the late 60s to the early 90s. The first edition of the book was published in 1994. The collection was compiled by the well-known music journalist and connoisseur of Russian rock, Alexander Kushnir. The book also includes a reference guide to fanzines created by rock music enthusiasts when rock was banned. The articles published in the anthology were written by emerging authors who later became famous: Artemy Troitsky, Boris Grebenshchikov, Oleg Kovriga, Andrey Burlaka. The documentary evidence included in the book is a primary source about such figures of the Russian rock underground as Alexander Bashlachev, Pyotr Mamonov, Yegor Letov, and others.
The reprint edition of 2021 in hardcover contains black-and-white illustrations, a preface by the compilers, and an index.
Alexander Kushnir is a Russian journalist, music producer, and author of books on secular and Russian music. As a producer, he has worked with stars such as Zemfira, Glyuk'oZa, and the bands Mumiy Troll, Tanцы Minus, Mультфильмы, and Tokyo. Alexander Kushnir is the author of the books "Golden Underground", "The Truth About Mummies and Trolls", "100 Magneto Albums of Soviet Rock", "Introduction to Nautilus Study", and "Kormiltsev. Cosmos as Memory".
