The book includes the most famous stories by A.P. Chekhov: "Kashtanka", "The Chameleon", "Vanka", "The Man in a Case", "Ward No. 6", "The Lady with the Dog" and others, the study of which is included in the school curriculum.

Conciseness, stunning humor, irony, and rich content make them unique and unmatched in world literature. Maxim Gorky wrote: "No one understood as clearly and subtly, like Anton Chekhov, the tragedy of the little things in life; no one before him could so ruthlessly truthfully depict for people the shameful and dreary picture of their lives in the dull chaos of bourgeois everydayness."
