Fridjés Karinty is the most famous humorist of his generation, the author of popular parodies of classics of Hungarian and world literature, an encyclopedic journalist and a man of celebration, the author of one of the most personal texts—a novel about illness, surgery, and recovery based on his own experience.

One day, while sitting in the "Central" café on University Square and solving a crossword puzzle, the writer suddenly hears the sound of train wheels and realizes that he is having hallucinations. It turns out that they are caused by a brain tumor. The hero has to choose between certain death and a risky operation in distant Sweden with a famous professor.
