Time of Troubles

Kostomarov Nikolai Ivanovich (1817-1885) - Russian historian, publicist, writer, educator, and public figure, corresponding member of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Author of the multivolume work "Russian History in the Biographies of Its Main Figures".

In the book "The Time of Troubles of the Moscow State in the Early 17th Century," based on various written sources, the events in the Moscow state are detailed, starting from the death of Tsar Feodor Ioannovich in 1598 and ending with the ascension to the throne of Mikhail Romanov in 1613.
This period, which has come to be known in historiography as the Time of Troubles, became one of the most tragic in the history of Russia, including the terrible famine during the reign of Boris Godunov, a series of pretender tsars, civil war, and Polish intervention, when "sons rebelled against fathers, brothers against brothers, and foreign enemies tormented the state."
