1948. Kazan. The head of the supply department of the bakery industry trust, Frunzik Kazaryan, was shot dead in his apartment. As he left, the killer took valuables that the owner had obviously acquired through dishonest means. According to a neighbor, he saw Kazaryan on the day of the murder exiting the building, and when he went upstairs, he found Kazaryan’s unlocked apartment, but now without signs of life. Police Major Vitaly Shchelkuno concludes that the criminal skillfully took advantage of the external resemblance to the murdered man. Or did he forge his identity?
