The Fall

«The Fall» – the last completed novella by A. Camus. Trying to answer the eternal question: «What is the meaning of human existence?», the writer chooses the form of a monologue-confession of the hero. Camus exposes the most terrible human vices that are not subject to condemnation by the court as an instance, but contradict virtue. The main character of the novella, having realized himself as a hypocrite and sinner, does not refuse his essence, but finds justification for continuing the life he is accustomed to... It is no wonder that Jean-Paul Sartre characterized the novella as «the most beautiful and least understood» book by A. Camus.
