Great Architects of St. Petersburg: Trezzini. Rastrelli. Rossi

The book by the famous Russian historian and art historian Yuri Maximilianovich Ovsyannikov (1926–2001) is dedicated to the creators of one of the most beautiful cities in the world – St. Petersburg. It captivatingly and at the same time strictly documentarily tells the fates of three great architects, those who created the unique appearance of the Northern Venice – Domenico Trezzini (1670–1734), Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli (1700–1771), and Carlo Rossi (1775–1849). The remarkable buildings and ensembles they constructed – the Peter and Paul Fortress, Smolny Cathedral, the Winter Palace, Mikhailovsky Palace (now the Russian Museum), Alexandrinsky Theater, and the buildings of the Senate and Synod – have adorned the streets and squares of Petersburg for more than one century. Therefore, this city itself has become one of the heroes of the book, now published in the series "Life of Remarkable People".
