Emperor Claudius (Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, 10 BC — 54 AD), who reigned after the immoral sadist Tiberius and the insane monster Caligula and before Nero, who was both at the same time, became the least known of the emperors of the Julian — Claudian dynasty. However, the underestimated successor of Caligula turned out to be a significant statesman and talented politician who was not afraid to oppose the traditional political class by entrusting high offices in the administration to former slaves, introducing senators from the provinces and the sons of freedmen, and enacting laws in favor of women and slaves. He passed away in 54 AD, leaving behind a peaceful and prosperous Empire that had expanded its borders, with an improved administration and an effective judicial system. His tragedy was that he was married to two excessively power-hungry women who incessantly interfered in state affairs.
