This is a book about the Minister of Medium Machine Engineering of the USSR, one of the main creators of the domestic atomic industry, three-time Hero of Socialist Labor Yefim Pavlovich Slavsky (1898—1991), a direct participant in all stages of the establishment and development of the Soviet state.
Within the framework of the atomic project, Slavsky worked with I. V. Kurchatov and B. L. Vanin, A. P. Zavenyagin and M. G. Perukhina, Yu. B. Khariton and Ya. B. Zel'dovich... He built the first industrial atomic reactor — "Annushka", and from 1957, as the Minister of Medium Machine Engineering, he effectively managed the entire vast atomic industry during its heyday. Under Slavsky, our country became a leader in the number and power of nuclear warheads; the first nuclear power plant, icebreakers, and ships with nuclear engines were built, many types of nuclear reactors were created, and related industries of the national economy developed. Where atomic facilities were built and uranium mining took place, entire cities were constructed at his initiative.
