The book by Nikos A. Salingaros presents his views on architectural design, more succinctly expressed in the work "Algorithms of Sustainable Design." As a methodological basis for analyzing architecture, the author uses the theory of complexity, which helps him formulate the laws of structural orderliness of form, as well as consider the perception of buildings by humans. Special attention is given to the hierarchy of scales in architecture and ornamentation as one of the tools for enhancing it. The chapters on modularity in architectural formation and memes in architecture strengthen the critique of modernism consistently carried out by Salingaros.
