The textbook for higher education institutions "History of the Ancient World. Antiquity" was written by Alexander Iosifovich Nemirovsky (1919-2007) – Doctor of Historical Sciences, a prominent Russian historian of Antiquity and Etruscan culture, educator, prose writer, poet, and translator, author of more than fifty books, including a number of authoritative textbooks, scientific monographs, and popular historical novels.
This textbook combines the traditionally separate presentations of the history of Ancient Greece and the history of Ancient Rome, thus allowing for the comprehension of phenomena and patterns of the historical process as a whole and, importantly, introducing into the orbit of ancient civilization other Mediterranean peoples alongside the Greeks and Romans. Moreover, the fates of Greece and Rome naturally intertwined after they entered a unified Mediterranean power, and from the 2nd century BC, the separate presentation of the history of the Mediterranean East and West simply becomes incorrect.
