Suprematism. On the Ladder of Knowledge

The book includes theoretical works by the founder of one of the central phenomena of Russian avant-garde - Suprematism - Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935), justifying the legitimacy of this artistic direction of abstract painting and allowing these principles to be extended to other forms of art.

At the core of Suprematism lies the idea of dominance, the superiority of color over all other properties of painting. In non-objective canvases, paint, according to K.S. Malevich, was for the first time liberated from a subsidiary role, from serving other purposes - Suprematist paintings became the first step of "pure creativity," i.e., an act that equated the creative force of man and Nature. 

In artistic practice, Suprematism was expressed in combinations of colorful planes of the simplest geometric shapes (in geometric forms of straight lines, squares, circles, and rectangles). The combination of colorful and differently sized geometric figures forms balanced asymmetric Suprematist compositions permeated with internal movement.
