Proclus Diadochus Commentary on Plato's Cratylus

This edition contains the first complete Russian translation of "Commentary on Plato's 'Cratylus'" by the outstanding late antique philosopher Proclus Diadochus (412-485).

The surviving text of Proclus's commentaries on Plato's dialogue 'Cratylus' consists of excerpts from his work, which is evidenced by the repeatedly occurring conjunction "hoti" at the beginning of the quotes, as well as the title that opens four out of five codices: "Useful excerpts from the scholia of philosopher Proclus on Plato's 'Cratylus'". It is unknown who made these excerpts, possibly someone from Proclus's students. The commentaries on 'Cratylus' are not, apparently, among the most interesting works of Proclus, falling behind his Commentaries on 'Timaeus' - a valuable source on the history of Neoplatonic philosophy, commentaries on 'The Republic' - a relatively coherent and rich theoretical essay, and 'Elements of Theology'.
