Under the Sun

At times, Guy de Maupassant, capable of seeing through human souls, experienced an unbearable desire to escape from Paris — from the hated Eiffel Tower, the endless crowds on the capital's streets, the familiar places, and the nagging thoughts. In such moments, Maupassant would travel to other countries and foreign shores, for "travel, — he wrote, — is a kind of door through which you step out of familiar reality to enter unfamiliar reality, seeming like a dream."
This edition includes travel sketches originally published in the collections "Under the Sun" and "Wandering Life," dedicated to the author's travels in Algeria and Tunisia, Greece, and Sicily.
