On the Pale Horse

Peter Larkin, known to friends simply as Lark, is a renowned sculptor who has returned to his hometown of Wofford Falls after a triumph in the big world. His sister Betsy, an artist who may surpass her brother in talent,... is reclusive and eccentric, living in solitude and rarely interacting with others. But one day everything changes: Betsy is kidnapped, and Lark receives an ancient manuscript and an ultimatum: "Do everything that is written here, and your sister will be free."
 
At first glance, everything seems simple. But the deeper Peter delves into the text, which turns out to be a guide for creating a certain sculpture, and his work on it, the more terrifying and unreal the events become. His friends change, and the town begins to transform right before his eyes along with its inhabitants. Lark finds himself faced with a choice: to stop the impending nightmare or to finish what he started and save his sister.
