After her parents' divorce, seventeen-year-old Estela moves to Castilmo - a city where legends about witches burned at the stakes are still well-known.
 
Strangeness begins to haunt the girl: nightmares, crows watching her every step. When one of the schoolgirls goes... missing, the city is once again filled with rumors: they say she was taken by Bruksa - a witch from Castilian legends, come to life in the body of a vampire bird. But the frightening events do not end there - a symbol of the Spanish card suit appears on Estela's body. The girl realizes that she is caught up in a whirlwind of revived Spanish and Portuguese legends. Her classmate Andres comes to her aid, and soon mutual feelings develop between them, blossoming into forbidden love...
