The prose of the outstanding American writer Flannery O’Connor follows the tradition of the American South – it is characterized by a commitment to Gothic and grotesque themes, the tension of racial confrontation, and moral issues, along with a sharp sense of the tragedy of existence. And although in the tone of her prose one may see hopelessness, grace, in the thought of the Catholic writer, is capable of transforming even those who do not notice it. Her texts operate not only on the level of reading-comprehension – but in the depths of the heart, therapeutically.

The book includes selected stories in translations by Leonid Motylev, most of which are published for the first time.
