Each pattern presented in the book was once stitched by a real craftswoman, and perhaps by her grandmother or great-grandmother, carefully preserved and collected by researchers during expeditions. For the convenience of modern needlewomen, we have redrawn these patterns and placed them on a counting grid so that every interested embroiderer can consciously touch her own heritage.
