Heavy pieces - rooks and queens - are best suited for delivering linear checkmate. Bishops, queens, and knights will declare diagonal checkmate. Stalemate is amusing! It seems the king is surrounded by its subjects, but a skilled chess player will find a way to deal a crushing blow with a knight. Often, pieces assist each other and checkmate the opponent's king with support. The epaulet checkmate looks elegant when one's own pieces "climb" onto the shoulders of their king and only hinder him from escaping danger. Checkmating is not that easy! The opponent's king strives to break free from the dangerous surroundings. Don't allow this! Take control of all squares that the king can move to.
