When suddenly life changed completely: universities closed, performances stopped, children now study remotely, and those who have somewhere to go are leaving Moscow, Tonya — a businesslike, cheerful, and optimistic screenwriter, and her adopted son Rodion — a terrible slacker... and inept, but also an artist, find themselves together in the charming town of Dozhdev.
 
One morning this new, still not fully settled, strange world turns upside down — a neighbor, an elderly woman whom everyone called “the old princess” behind her back, dies. And from Moscow arrives Sasha Shumakova — now Tonya's new friend.
 
What did the “old princess” die from? A heart attack? It doesn't seem so; too many details indicate that she wasn’t planning to die at all…
 
And why are some scoundrels attacking the friends and the priest right in the temple?!
 
The local police, however, only mocks Tonya's suspicions. Maybe she, the famous screenwriter, really just imagined everything?
