The History of Russia. Fateful Events, Military Conflicts, Great Rulers from the Formation of the Ancient Russian State to the October Revolution. 862—1917

The outstanding scholar, the largest historian of Russian emigration E.F. Shmurlo (1853–1934) reconstructs the history of Russia from ancient times to the early 20th century in an inseparable connection with the history of other peoples and countries, both of the West and the East.

Considering the stages of statehood formation among the Eastern Slavs, the historian demonstrates how national unity and the uniqueness of Russia were formed and notes its special path of sociocultural development. The narrative is accompanied by historiographical excursions, portraits of rulers and prominent statesmen of the era, lists of the most important literary works, scientific discoveries, as well as monuments of material and spiritual culture of each of the considered historical strata.
