To destabilize the British economy, pay for important imports, and fund the work of German intelligence agents during World War II, Germany developed and secretly implemented an operation for the mass production of counterfeit banknotes. The head of this operation, SS Sturmbannführer Bernhard Krüger, assembled a team of engravers, printers, artists, and counterfeiters from Jewish prisoners in concentration camps. After the project was completed, the Nazis planned to eliminate all participants of Operation 'Bernhard,' but they did not succeed, as the prisoners were liberated by American forces. Antony Beevor attempted to reconstruct the events of this Nazi adventure.
