Daphnis and Chloe

Shepherds from the Greek island of Lesbos find two foundlings, a boy and a girl, whom they raise and name respectively Daphnis and Chloe. As they grow up, Daphnis and Chloe begin to tend the flocks of their adoptive parents... and soon fall in love with each other. Pure and innocent souls cannot immediately recognize this bright feeling, but it gives the young people strength and helps them to honorably overcome the trials that come their way time and again.

Almost forgotten in the Middle Ages, the novel “Daphnis and Chloe” regained fame during the Renaissance and is now regarded as a recognized monument of ancient literature and is among the five canonical Greek novels. The book has been adapted for film multiple times and has inspired operas and ballets.
