1941, The powerful Bussardels continue to live in their mansion on Van Dyke Avenue. Neither war nor trials have changed these cruel, cynical people.
Exiled from the clan, Agnes Bussardel has retreated to Cape Bayou, and for her, a grown and accomplished woman, the main concern and longing is her son.
But time smooths the edges, common misfortune unites, and Agnes, still deeply attached to her family, wants to piece together the fragments, restore relationships, and provide her child with a support system in the form of blood relatives.
Understanding the utopian nature of her plan, Agnes takes the first step toward the Bussardels – she travels to occupied Paris.
