«The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha» was first published in 1605. Initially, Cervantes conceived this work as a parody of chivalric or courtly romances. The plots in them were approximately the same: a high-minded knight sets out on a perilous journey, performing unprecedented feats and composing lyrical verses in the name of his beautiful lady. The same is attempted by Cervantes' hero: Don Quixote finds glorious armor, a loyal squire, a beautiful lady, and embarks on a quest for adventures to demonstrate his valor. However, the brave and selfless Knight of the Sad Countenance continually has to confront the reality that is strikingly different from the images described in courtly romances…
