He came for negotiations on the return of hundreds of books stored in the Vatican to Russia. Before his death, the pope's envoy managed to send a message to the operational unit "Sigma", indicating that he had stumbled upon the trail of the Golden Library of Ivan the Terrible, a legendary collection of books that was thought to be forever lost, but in fact discovered long ago under Catherine II, who ordered to keep the find in the strictest secrecy.
Her decree was not just a royal whim. The library contains a unique text that not only includes encrypted instructions on how to reach the ruins of the destroyed ancient northern civilization but also information about the deadly force that destroyed it.
