Strogonovs

Strogonovs — wealthy salt producers, later barons and eventually counts… They allied with the ruling house of the Romanovs and the descendants of Rurik, collected huge collections of works of art, and being the richest landowners in the empire, spent... fabulous sums on charity and assistance to their serfs. One of the representatives of the family, Grigory Dmitrievich Strogonov, was a close associate and advisor to Peter I, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren became well-known ministers, diplomats, and heroic officers.
How wonderful it would be if such a family had suitable ancestors. Perhaps due to this desire, the Strogonovs created the legend that they are descendants of Genghis Khan. But is it true? Or were the ancestors of the Strogonovs simply lucky and resourceful merchants who managed to win the favor of both ruling dynasties in Russia and even one of the kings of the Time of Troubles, Vasily Shuisky?
