In the history of world literature, the English writer Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) is known as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, the brilliant detective from Baker Street, 221B. The adventures of Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson have captivated readers around the world for over a century. The very name Sherlock Holmes has become a household name. This is not by chance – the stories and novellas about this immortal hero bear all the hallmarks of first-class fiction: rich imagination, impeccable intrigue, precise and easy narrative style, and the hero himself embodies the ideal of a chivalrous fighter against evil, personified in crime.
This volume includes the first two novellas by A. Conan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes: 'A Study in Scarlet' (1887) and 'The Sign of the Four' (1890).
