Alexander Blok and His Time

Nina Berberova (1901–1993) — prose writer and poet, "the first Parisian lady of Russian literature," author of the sensational autobiography "My Italics" (1969).

In the book "Alexander Blok and His Time", written in 1947 in French for French readers, Nina Berberova recreates the life of the poet against the backdrop of events of the late 19th – early 20th century. "...To both Moscow and Petersburg symbolists, one thing seemed undeniable: Blok was no longer the singer of the Beautiful Lady; he had become a man of modern Russia; with a troubled conscience, full of insatiable longing, he looked soberly into the future.
