The Sun of the Dead

"The Sun of the Dead" belongs to those works that are usually read only once in a lifetime; it is filled not so much with thoughts as with the vivid feelings of a person suffering from the evil and injustice of the world around them. Along with «The Accursed Days» by Bunin, it is one of the heaviest and most terrifying stories about the bloody nightmare of the Civil War that descended upon the frozen-in-terror Russia, symbolized and reflected in the novel by a small settlement in the red-occupied Crimea.
