It is written by a prominent Russian military engineer, a professor at several academies, who even lectured to the future Emperor Nicholas II, and is considered a classic work in its field. The book discusses the design of fortification structures such as the Munot rondel, the fortresses of Germersheim, Ulm, Dunkirk, the defensive complexes of Koblenz, Antwerp, Paris, as well as the Pskov, Smolensk, and Moscow Kremlins, the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, the forts of the Gulf of Finland, and many others.
The book is published with carefully selected illustrations – photographs, works of visual art, drawings, and plans.
