Tatar Tales

We present to you a unique anthology of tales that encompasses all facets of the original and vibrant Tatar folklore. This luxurious edition collects the best samples of folk creative works from the Volga, Siberian, Mountain, and Crimean Tatars.

Forty-two tales included in this book were recorded in the 19th - early 20th century from the words of folk storytellers by folklorists and ethnographers, as well as by school teachers and representatives of the national intelligentsia, then translated, adapted for children's reading, and artistically designed by remarkable translators and linguists P. A. Polyakov, V. N. Kharuzina, E. Z. Baranov, V. A. Gatsuk, S. D. Kozyubinsky, V. Kh. Kondaraki, and others.
Most of these tales are being published in Russia for the first time in almost a century and a half, and as a single collection, illustrated with works of Tatar and world painting, they have never been printed before.
