Companion Summer with Montaigne

One of the outstanding literary scholars of our time, Professor of the Collège de France Antoine Compagnon (born 1950) dedicated two major studies to Michel de Montaigne, and in 2012 prepared for the radio station France Inter a series of... forty short broadcasts reviewing the main themes of Essays — the only (apart from letters) work of Montaigne, which made him one of the founders of the worldview of the Modern era and the creator of the essay genre.
 
The book Summer with Montaigne, composed of texts from these broadcasts, was published in France a year later and became a bestseller. Carelessly strolling through the whimsical and boundless landscape of Essays, as through his native city, Compagnon conveys to us — his companions — the pleasure of recognizing its monuments and curiosities.
