Death in Five Boxes

The golden age of detective fiction left many star names – A. Christie, G. K. Chesterton, G. Mitchell, and others. In this bright constellation, John Dickson Carr (1906–1977) occupies the most honorable place. In Carr's works, there are no wild chases or shootouts, and the circle of suspects is kept to a minimum. A murder in a locked room is the author's favorite plot. Carr entangles the reader in a web of deceptive maneuvers, false clues, and subtle hints, inviting them to participate in solving an intricate puzzle by unraveling the threads of 'impossible' crimes.

After making his will, Sir Dennis Blystone left his home and was found a few hours later by his daughter in the apartment of a certain Felix Hay. The owner of the apartment had been stabbed, and Blystone and two other guests were under the influence of atropine. It appears that they were poisoned by drinks that, as all three swore, were prepared in front of them. To untangle the complex knot of circumstances and find out who the murderer is, Henry Merrivale will need all his ingenuity.
