Jerusalem: The City of the Book

A multitude of guides have been written about Jerusalem, but the book by Merav Mak and Benjamin Balint holds a special place among them.

Readers are in for a captivating journey through the hidden treasures of Jerusalem — its libraries and book collections. To tell the story of a city where many world-dominating ideas were embodied in words, the authors secured permission to examine closed collections, visited inaccessible places, saw unique manuscripts and artifacts with their own eyes, and met with dozens of specialists: curators and restorers, officials and scholars.

The result of their many years of work — a tremendous gift for all book lovers — is a thrilling tale of how people have populated Jerusalem with texts for millennia.
