Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean

Two events in European history coincided in an amazing way: the discovery of America and the expulsion of the Jews from Spain. On August 2, 1492, a fleet of three ships commanded by Christopher Columbus set sail. On the same... day, Spanish Jews were forced to leave their homeland forever.
 
The book by American historian Edward Kritzler tells the story of how the exiles and their descendants sought a new homeland in the lands discovered by Columbus, and how they fought against those who condemned them to exist in foreign lands.
In 1992, Pope John Paul II welcomed the descendants of Spanish Jews at the Vatican. On behalf of the Catholic Church, he apologized for the persecution of their ancestors. Among those listening to the Roman pontiff were the descendants of the heroes of this book – the Jewish pirates of the Caribbean.
