The Hugo, Locus, Sfinks and Academy of Science Fiction Awards.
Anthologies rarely make history, but "Dangerous Visions" is a great and remarkable exception. Back in 1967, during student unrest, the dishonorable war in Vietnam, and the psychedelic revolution, writer and editor...
Harlan Ellison made a genuine cultural provocation. He asked the leading science fiction writers of his time to write a story for his anthology that would express a true, "dangerous" vision of the future and therefore could not be published at that time. The list of authors was indeed impressive: Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, Poul Anderson, Robert Silverberg, Philip José Farmer, and others. It is not surprising that the wonderful, unique, shocking, and perception-altering works, first published under this cover, later often became nominees and winners of the major genre awards "Hugo" and "Nebula".
For each story, Harlan Ellison wrote an original foreword introducing the reader to the author. The writers themselves prepared afterwords for their texts, revealing the nuances of their creative search. For the anthology as a whole, forewords were written by grandmaster of the "golden age" of science fiction Isaac Asimov, father of the "new wave" Michael Moorcock, and Ellison's successor - Michael Straczynski.
All stories are illustrated.
