"Where could peasant memories and memoirs come from? After all, the majority of Russian peasants were illiterate people!" – many think. However, such memories exist, and not few. Ethnographic bureau materials, notes from old newspapers and magazines, the works of ethnographers, and personal records of peasants have survived to this day.

In this book, the author reveals the theme of a person's life path, discussing "rituals of the life cycle". The book contains information on traditions and beliefs related to the birth, baptism, and the first year of life of peasant children, as well as youth gatherings and festivities, wedding, childbirth, and funeral rituals.
