Sense and Sensibility

Two sisters. Two paths to happiness. Elinor believes in reason, Marianne – in feelings. Elinor is used to approaching everything with common sense, Marianne – to act impulsively. They are different, but both dream, even deep down, of true love. Will Elinor's rationality or Marianne's passionate heart become an obstacle?

In the original title of the novel – Sense and Sensibility – Jane Austen contrasts two ways of experiencing the world. Sense – is reason, inner control, the ability to think of others and act restrained, like Elinor. Sensibility – is impressionability, living on emotions, a tendency to tumultuous impulses, like Marianne. Austen shows not a black-and-white morality, but a complex choice between different forms of feeling. And she offers a balance: only by combining reason and sensibility can one be truly mature and loving.
