The novella "Dog's Heart" by Mikhail Bulgakov was written in 1925 during the heyday of the New Economic Policy (NEP) and eugenics, with all its biological oddities such as experiments in rejuvenation and hybridization. The very spirit of the time dictated fantastic plots to the writer, however, the zealous Soviet censorship did not appreciate Bulgakov's humor and closed the way for the "pamphlet on communism and the creation of a new man" to be published. The work was officially published in the USSR for the first time in 1987 and immediately attracted the attention of filmmakers and theatrical figures. In our digital age, authors of creative VK pages have also turned to "Dog's Heart" as a source of inspiration.
