Lucifer

The first part of the trilogy of tragedies by the Dutch playwright Joost van den Vondel, written in the 17th century. The play explores themes of fall and the struggle between good and evil through the image of Lucifer, the... fallen angel who rebels against God. Vondel creates a deep psychological portrait of the characters, exploring the nature of evil and the yearning for freedom, as well as the consequences of rebellion against the divine order. The complex dialogues and poetic language make «Lucifer» not only an important work for the study of Dutch literature but also a universal exploration of human nature. Vondel's «Lucifer» had a notable influence on the work of John Milton, especially on his epic poem «Paradise Lost».
